ARL Study Tours 2025: A Retrospective

Following the latest, highly successful 黑料专区 Study Tour to Newcastle & Sunderland, the last of 2025, we wanted to take the opportunity to look back at the extensive Study Tour programme which we have delivered for our members this year.

Of value not just to ARL members but also to non-members with an interest in the rental living sector and local authorities addressing regional housing challenges, the ARL has delivered seven Study Tours across the UK and Europe this year, attracting 218 delegates.

Always hugely popular, the ARL Study Tours provide a unique opportunity to take an in-depth look at the rental living sector in a region-specific context, including understanding local housing needs, pressures, drivers and economics.

Combining guided site visits to a variety of multi-family, single-family and co-living schemes at varying stages of development, with an intensive programme of expert briefings, deep dive regional analysis and networking opportunities, ARL Study Tours are designed to deliver a year鈥檚-worth of learning in a day (or two). 聽

Attended by investors, developers, consultants and suppliers, along with local authority officials and other regional experts, the ARL Study Tours have also proven to play a key role in building a stronger, more connected rental living sector community.

The breadth of locations and development types that the 2025 Study Tours have encompassed is impressive. The most recent 鈥 and the first to take place in the North East 鈥 visited Newcastle and Sunderland in early October. As well as visiting five operational multi-family and single-family developments at varying stages, the two-day tour included an event focused on regional economics, detailed discussions with city councils on regeneration and housing needs and unique on the ground insights.

In July, the ARL North West Hub hosted a two-day study tour of Liverpool, including an exploration of seven standout developments in the rental living sector. Innovation and best practice were at the heart of the event, along with extensive networking opportunities both within and beyond the sector.

Other UK study tours this year have taken place in Leicester in May, with five scheme visits, including the Queen Street Quarter operated by the John Lewis Partnership, and Brighton in January. The latter explored Brighton鈥檚 particular success in attracting institutional investment within a compact timeframe.

The ARL鈥檚 audience-specific tours have also proven popular during 2025. In May, we collaborated with UKREiiF to deliver a Leeds Study Tour during the Forum event specifically designed for public sector delegates, including those from local authorities. The tour visited two leading living sector schemes in Leeds 鈥 UNCLE Leeds and Dandara Living鈥檚 Leodis Square 鈥 as well as encompassing knowledge sharing and best practice sessions and a roundtable debate. The focus was on the role that Build to Rent can play in meeting local housing needs, and how public sector bodies can engage with investors, developers and operators in partnering to deliver high-quality homes at scale and at pace.

Embracing international connections, we also hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People鈥檚 Republic of China and the Industry Council for China Rental Apartments in September. A schedule of Study Tour across several London schemes and meetings was devised to build an understanding of the dynamics of rental living in the UK, including Build to Rent鈥檚 role in regeneration and community building.

2025 also saw the ARL host its first overseas study tour. In February, delegates were given the opportunity to explore exploring cutting-edge developments and the rental living market in Madrid. The two-day visit delivered unparalleled market, design and operations insights from one of Europe鈥檚 leading Build to Rent locations, mixing site visits to leading schemes with a value-packed mini conference.

Brendan Geraghty, CEO of the ARL, comments: 鈥Our Study Tours are one of the best and most in-depth ways to gain insights into rental living sector best practice and local market dynamics while making connections that strengthen the sector as a whole. We are delighted to have hosted seven incredibly successful Study Tours during 2025, and my thanks go to all those who have worked hard to make these events so valuable. We are already planning a range of exciting Study Tours for 2026, ensuring we take forward the momentum of these hugely insightful and fruitful events.鈥

The schedule for the 2026 ARL Study Tour programme will be released in the near future.
